Many applications need to connect to the Internet to work properly, but this may not work to your benefit and it may even hinder you. Windows provides you with what you need to prevent applications from connecting to the Internet, but accessing this tool is not as straightforward as you'd want, especially if you have to modify these rules on a regular basis. This is where Simplewall comes in. It lets you decide what applications may send and receive information or not. The main advantage is the fact that it gives you a better access to these controls. You can allow or block any application at a moment's notice, with a single click.

Simplewall is distributed as a freeware application. It works on all modern Windows platforms and it can be installed in just a few seconds. The hardware requirements are modest and there is no need to install any special tools or services.

Applications that connect to the Internet are listed on a compact user interface. The application uses a series of filters and it blocks everything by default, letting you decide what should be allowed to connect. What's more, Simplewall lets you tweak its filters and add your own custom rules.

Before you make any decision regarding your applications, you have to install the filters on your system, which can be done almost instantly, by clicking a button on the main interface. Once the filters are installed, everything will be blocked, including your web browsers, but you can unblock individual applications, by simply clicking the check boxes next to their entries.

With Simplewall working on your computer, nothing will be able to connect to the Internet without your permission.

Pros

You can prevent applications from connecting to the Internet. The software lets you add your own custom rules. It works in the background, without getting in your way or using up your resources.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to mention.
